What is an "Actively Participating Member"

Some of the lodge benefits are available only to "actively participating" members. We feel that the future of our lodge is dependent upon actual participation, to at least some degree, by the members. We also realize that some members seek only the association with our name. While
that is certainly acceptable, and we appreciate all members, we have determined that there should be some benefit to doing the work that it takes to keep the lodge going.

The definition is: A member who attends a minimum of one half of the scheduled monthly meetings .

Excused absences will be granted due to scheduled work.
Unexcused absences can be made up by participating in an approved service or lodge project as approved by the president.

Opportunity Grant Application

For ease of access, this article is in the public portion of the website. However, this applies only to members of the lodge.

Attached is an application for the lodge opportunity grants. By using this application, we are placing the burden on the applicant to explain how they meet the long-established criteria for receiving funds, rather than relying on a long and laborious committee review process. Please get this completed application to any lodge officer two weeks prior to the meeting where you want your request to be considered. By filling out the application completely, the membership will understand the request and the Treasurer will have the information necessary to issue a check.

All officers/trustees (or any member) are asked to print this and post it in an appropriate place in your department. It can be printed front-to-back so that applicants can see all the criteria and understand why the questions on the application are being asked.

Lodge Scholarship Program

Miami County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 58 offers scholarships of up to $1,000 per year to
any child or step-child of an Actively Participating Member when the child is pursuing a law
enforcement degree.
No more than $3,000 will be awarded in a calendar year. Application should be made by March
in a year when the child is attending a Fall Semester.
An “Active Participating Member” is a member who participates in at least half of all meetings,
unless excused due to work schedule. Members may “make-up” an unexcused absence by
participating in an approved service or lodge project as approved by the lodge president.
